Luis E. García de Brigard
Luis is currently the Founder and Managing Partner of Appian Education Ventures, an international investment firm that specializes in education. He previously was the founding CEO for the Americas at Inspired Education, one of the largest premium K-12 groups in the world. Luis served as Deputy Minister of Education of Colombia where he led efforts to reform the teaching profession, create effective measures of learning, and promote school accountability. During his tenure, the Ministry of Education received the largest budget in the country, surpassing that of defense for the first time in Colombia’s history. A committed social entrepreneur, Luis co-founded Enseña por Colombia in 2011 and has since served on its Board.
Luis has served as a board member and advisor for numerous international organizations including Harvard University’s Global Education Innovation Initiative, The Aspen Institute, Colombia, Laspau, Varkey Foundation’s Atlantis Group, Greater Share, the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Dean’s Leadership Council, and SOS Children’s Villages. He has served as Chairman for the Colombian Institute for the Evaluation of Education (ICFES), as well as for the National Pedagogic University, Colombia’s largest teaching college. He also has a deep love for the MENA region and recently connected Teach For All to the ministries in the UAE and Saudi Arabia where he is actively consulting on the development of national education strategies. Luis earned his Law degree from Universidad Javeriana, received a Masters in Education from Harvard University and an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
