Enseña por México alumna Angélica Montes is driven by her belief in the transformational power of education
While still in university, Angie Montes participated in an Enseña por México summer volunteer program, and was immediately hooked on the organization’s mission and motivated by the leadership of the young staff members and teachers who led the program. When she graduated in 2017, Angie joined Enseña por México and became a young classroom leader like those inspired her. Today, her work with the organization Mexicanos Primeros involves engaging both with teachers and policy makers, which has convinced Angie even more of the power of collective leadership to effect lasting change – and the potential for alumni of Enseña por México to be key actors in that change. “We are united by the belief, firmly convinced that education transforms, and that we will achieve systemic change with collective leadership,” she says of her fellow alumni and those who will continue to join the movement year after year.
