Ensina Brasil alumnus André Liboreiro is using research to dismantle structural racism in education
Publication date
The son of a teacher, André Liboreiro was inspired from a young age by his mother’s charisma and impact in the classroom. After studying mathematics in university, he decided to follow in her footsteps by joining Ensina Brasil. In his own classroom, André noticed that his Black students were disengaged with the heavily Eurocentric curriculum—as a Black man himself, he understood that they struggled to see themselves represented in what they were learning. Today, in his work with the Lemann Foundation, André is using data and evidence to influence the public sector to include Afro-Brazilian history and culture in school.
